Decline in abrahamic religion
With the decline in organized religion overall, it's no surprise that many people have gotten into alternative practices like such from modern paganism, witchcraft, or other new age practices as a way to look for new meaning.
Many who are also still a part of these much larger religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) are also more open-minded to what was previously seen as "demonic" back in the day. Tarot while still associated with things like "black magic" to many (which I've picked up on when brainstorming this topic with fellow students), there was also an equal amount describing it in a positive light, which I think would be totally different if this brainstorm session had happened decades earlier.
Information is more accessible than ever
With the help of the internet, tarot readings are getting more popular than ever before. They're super fun after all, and are very similar to looking at the horoscopes in the sense that it can get you something to think about, and it's become a very entertaining thing for some people. With the use of internet and social media, it's easier than ever to get a tarot reading done, or even learning how to do them yourself.
With TikTok as a popular platform, many people in the tarot reading community have gathered a huge following by this sort of content. While tarot on tiktok can either be done by scammers or genuine people who want to help, it's important to note that not every tarot reader is like that.
A hobby from isolation
The covid 19 pandemic has gotten everyone stuck inside their homes around the year 2020. With the pandemic in full swing, many people took to different hobbies, and tarot was no exception. For some, tarot was more than a hobby however and could help them feel sane throughout the social distancing, and the pastime itself can be a cheaper alternative for self-help therapy for those that didn't really have access to getting help elsewhere.
Why? Well tarot readings can go really deep into a particular topic, as well as giving the reader some new insight towards a potential problem they might be facing. Tarot cannot replace therapy of course, but it can be a step towards it.
